Reckon is a scorekeeper for the card game Flip 7. This page explains exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how to remove it. The short version: we collect what we need to run the app, nothing more, and you can delete everything from inside the app any time.
What we collect
Your phone number
Reckon uses your phone number as your account identifier. When you sign up or sign in, we send a one-time SMS code that you type back into the app to verify ownership of the number. We store the verified number so you can sign in from another device, link your account to games friends invite you to, and see your shared game history.
We do not use your number for marketing, advertising, or any third-party analytics.
Your display name
You choose a display name when you first sign in. It’s shown on player chips during games and to other players in shared lobbies. You can change it any time from the Profile screen.
Photos of your card hands
When you tap “Take photo” during a round, the image is sent to our scoring engine for card recognition. The scoring engine processes the image to identify the cards and then discards the original. We keep a small thumbnail (about 256 pixels wide) attached to the round in your game record so you can reference it later from the game’s history view.
We do not use your photos to train any AI model, and we do not share them with third parties beyond the scoring engine described below.
Game state
Each game records the players (names, optionally linked phones), the cards scored each round, the running totals, and short witty commentary the app generates. This is stored on our servers (Supabase) so you can access it from any device and so other players in the game can see the live scoreboard. A copy is also kept on your device for offline access.
Who else sees your data
Supabase (authentication + storage)
We use Supabase to manage authentication (phone verification) and to store game state. They process your phone number, your display name, and your game records on our behalf.
Twilio (SMS delivery)
One-time SMS codes are delivered through Twilio on Supabase’s behalf. Twilio sees your phone number and the code being sent. They do not see anything else about you or your game history.
Google Vertex AI (photo recognition + commentary)
Photos of your card hands are sent to Google Vertex AI (Gemini models) for card identification. Game state and player names are also sent to Vertex AI to generate the witty round-by-round commentary, end-of-game wrap-ups, and per-player scouting notes. Per Google’s Vertex AI data-governance terms, prompts and responses are not used to train Google’s models when called from a Google Cloud project (which Reckon’s deployment is).
You can turn off the witty commentary entirely from the Profile screen — once turned off, no game data is sent to Vertex AI for commentary purposes. Photo recognition still requires sending the photo when you choose to take one.
Vercel (hosting)
Reckon is hosted on Vercel. They process the network requests your device makes to load the app and call the API. Standard request logs (IP address, request path, timestamps) are kept according to their policy.
What we don’t do
- We don’t use third-party advertising or marketing trackers.
- We don’t sell your data.
- We don’t share your data across apps.
- We don’t use your photos or game state to train any third-party AI model.
- We don’t track you across other apps or websites.
Your choices
Edit or delete your data
You can update your display name any time from the Profile screen. Tap “Delete account” on the same screen to permanently remove your account, your linked phone, and the games you’ve hosted. Games where you joined as a guest stay with the host but no longer link back to you.
Turn off witty commentary
The Profile screen has a toggle for “Witty commentary & nicknames.” Off means no game data is sent to Vertex AI for commentary purposes.
Don’t link your phone
You can join someone else’s game as a guest without signing up — guests have no account, no saved data, and no cross-game history. Hosts can add you to a game by typing your name and Reckon will treat you as a one-off participant.
Children’s privacy
Reckon is intended for general audiences. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us so we can remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we collect, use, or share data, we’ll update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be announced inside the app before they take effect.
